The WORK ON SUNDAY event continues to garner recognitions. The European award received two months ago was joined in the gala held last night in Vigo by the national award for Best Tourism Promotion at the Iberian Festival Awards. The jury of the contest, which awards excellence among festivals throughout Spain and Portugal, has chosen WOS Festival x SON Estrella Galicia for its outstanding value in the cultural tourism promotion of the city of Santiago de Compostela, competing against appointments such as Resurrection Fest or Bilbao BBK Live.
The organization of the event in Santiago de Compostela has underlined since its inception their desire to offer a cultural and artistic alternative in which to discover and enjoy unique experiences in very special contexts and limited audiences. The festival’s proposal is defined by its willingness to present, in the exceptional framework offered by Santiago de Compostela, artistic forms around electronic music and exploration. One of the event’s main characteristic lays in its twelve locations, distributed over the urban and historical center of the Galician capital, which have included in its five years of trajectory the Galician Museum Center for Contemporary Art – CGAC, the City of Culture, the Teatro Principal, the terrace of the Eugenio Granell Foundation, the University’s Church, the Food Market, the headquarters of the SGAE Foundation, the Capitol and Malatesta concert halls or the independent cinema hall NUMAX.
WOS lineup has brought together leading artists from Egypt, Sri Lanka, Japan, Israel, Hungary, Austria, Serbia, Germany, Finland, Brazil, the United States, Australia, Canada or Niger. The program, structured around music, has included debate tables, film premieres, club, performance and scenic arts, or gastronomic activities throughout its five editions. Music-wise, its lineup has included both cult figures and revelation artists, with names like The Soft Moon, Thee Oh Sees, Silver Apples, Beak>, Michael Rother plays Neu!, Spectrum, Laurel Halo, Roly Porter & MFO, Raime, Vessel, Fluzo, Skee Mask, Robert Henke, Group A, Paul Jebanasam & Tarik Barri, Demdike Stare, Niño de Elche, Gábor Lázár, Greg Fox, Ron Morelli, Samuel Kerridge, Abul Mogard, Suso Saiz, JASSS, Oddisee, KXP or Lucrecia Dalt among others. On its hand, the cinema programe has participated in worldwide premieres as Nick Cave’s documentary “One More Time With Feeling”, or the premieres in Spain of the celebrated “Milford Graves Full Mantis” or “Tony Conrad: Completely In The Present”. Sponsors such as Jägermeister and Red Bull participate in the project by complementing the music lineup with unusual and transgressive proposals, aimed at a restless audience that seeks artistic food beyond the massive channels.
The annual appointment of the Galician producer WORK ON SUNDAY will announce its dates of 2019 soon, one more year with SON Estrella Galicia linking its name to the one of the festival as a main sponsor.
