SPECTRUM / UK
WOS SHOWCASE X JÄGERMUSIC
Spectrum is one of the most recognized projects of Pete “Sonic Boom” Kember after the separation of Spacemen 3. Initially “Spectrum” was the title of the artist’s first solo album, released in 1990 before the separation of Spacemen 3: a collection of ethereal songs, almost without form. However, Spectrum seems to have been reserved to satisfy the more conventional pop inclinations of the artist. After the dissolution of Spacemen 3 in 1991 Kember took the name for its new band and released a debut album, Soul Kiss (Glide Divine), a collection of calm and luminous retro pop songs mixed with drone passages. After the publication of an EP and the LP, Highs, Lows and Heavenly Blows (1994), Kember spent a few years focused on the project E.A.R., Experimental Audio Research, an open group with participants such as Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine, Kevin Martin of the duo Techno Animal, or Eddie Prévost of AMM, dedicated to improvisation and exploration with analog synthesizers of environmental textures and tonal constructions. After a hiatus of almost a decade, in 2008 Kember returned to the studio and the stages.
