Lafawndah has earned a reputation thanks to a creativity that breaks every established limits and challenges any label. After two acclaimed EPs, her debut album “Ancestor Boy” is a risky statement built on a varied map of influences that resists categorization and easy analysis. In her music we find dramatic and powerful rhythms, which combine the club and the popular song in a mysterious ultramodern erotic. Designed with the help of her fellow travelers Nick Weiss, Aaron David Ross and L-Vis 1990 (and with appearances by Gaika, Kelsey Lu, Bonnie Banane, Julie Byrne and the inimitable Jon Hassell), the maximalism of “Ancestor Boy” is an overflow of details, feelings and ideas that has granted itself the favor of publications such as The Quietus, Wire or Resident Advisor.
